Email Chain after I was in a football bubble last night and completely missed the news that Dwight Howard was traded to the Lakers for piss on the dollar.
Me to Stephen House (our Basketball Columnist)
Title of the email: Howard to the Lakers?!?!?!
What are your thoughts on this? I am going to be so pissed if Kobe wins another ring…Not sure why I dislike the guy so much. Just never liked his face…
Stephen’s Response to me (Mind you I forgot he was a Lakers fan, so I was expecting some good old fashion Kobe bashing, with some vaginal bruising-Stephanie Rice jokes thrown in for good measure)
Eric,
Well you’re talking to a Lakers fan here haha. I honestly hate Howard and thought the team would be better off with Bynum on the offensive end. He’s a much more polished offensive player. But, having said that, with Nash he might be unstoppable. I’m really looking forward to seeing this team. It blows my mind that teams still fall for the Lakers’ draft pick trade. Really? You know that pick will be 27-30 range every year.

Yea, I can see how you would be excited. But I don’t understand the logic of these other GMs. There is no way he’s going to be able to play there unless you trade and HELP them out. I don’t see Nokia walking over to Apple and saying “here are all the plans for our newest smart phone.” Makes me sick that three other GMs helped facilitate this and then they bitch about the league not being competitive. I think Howard works, up until this year he was much more reliable health-wise than Bynum. Plus, he’s a guy that doesn’t need touches to be effective…protect the rim, rebound, pick and roll…They would destroy the Heat in the finals, but I don’t know if they can beat the Thunder…
Stephen’s Response to me:
Yes, I hate that other teams facilitated this. I understand Hennigen had to trade Howard but he passed on way better deals. I hate what they got in return. Philly looks pretty good in this. I’ll write you an article soon. I’m interested to see if Houston makes a move to get rid of the cash they stored to make a play for him.

My Reply:
Yea, Philly and Denver came out really well in the trade. The Magic got ass raped and then shit on…Seriously three picks that are all lottery protected and are in the years, 14, 15, and 17; plus two lousy young guys. I have no idea way they would allow this trade to happen. There had to be better offers out there, worst case you still let him play this season, then let him walk. Everyone knows that if your superstar leaves via free agency D-Sterny will hook you up with a number one, with the stipulation that you write an angry letter in comic sans to your fans.
So in review, a team with no cap room and two viable trade pieces ends the off-season with Steve Nash AND Dwight Howard. All without taking on any bullshit contracts AND keeping Pau Gasol. Remind me why we had the lock out again?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!
P.S – Hey Denver, you know how you thought you had the chance to be sneaky good and maybe surprise someone in the playoffs? Well that’s about as likely as Ryan Lochte not getting laid in the Olympic Village. You guys screwed yourselves. Buckle up, we are in for 4 or 5 years of Lakers vs. Thunder in the Western Conference finals.
P.P.S: I secretly hope that this was a giant ploy by CP3 and Dwight Howard. They could completely dick over both LA teams and announce in an East Coast Rap Video co-starring a Biggie Hologram with a T.I hook that they are going to ATL!! I have no love for the Hawks, but it would be fitting that the Lakers give up nothing to get Howard for a year, don’t win and then he bolts for his hometown.
