Paris Saint German pulled off quite the coup this week when they signed the talented midfield playmaker Javier Pastore. Pastore was coveted by all the big clubs in Europe after a dazzling season with Italian Serie A club Palermo. Pastore is a typical South American starlet, blessed with pace, outstanding ball control and amazing vision he had a fantastic start to the season. Scoring goals and leading Palermo to the top of the league. However he faded quite a bit in the second half of the season, whether is was due towards the added pressure or the intense physical marking, he was not the same. This is why the move to PSG is perfect for the budding star. He is still physically under-developed and the wear and tear of the Serie A campaign wore him down last season. So a move to the Premiership, which is even bigger and stronger would have been detrimental to his development. Especially if he would have been thrusted into the Chelsea midfield and expected to be a match winner right off the bat. The level of physicality in Ligue 1, where PSG plays, is not nearly as demanding as the Premiereship. Plus he has the added benefit of playing out of the main European spotlight and can completely develop his game. He is only 22, and when Ronaldinho made a similar move to PSG earlier in his career it did wonders for his confidence and development. Pastore can only hope that will be the case, because he has to view this as a stepping stone and not the peak.
